Footage of the incident sees the back rower racing down the left-hand side of the pitch before falling to the floor following a challenge where he appears to clash heads. Prone, Pierazzoli is then landed on by other players as the action continues.

Reports say medics were fast to respond, including three parents spectating who were doctors. Initially conscious, but struggling to breath, Pierazzoli was taken to hospital in a critical condition but was declared brain dead due to the number of vertebrae he had fractured. He passed away Sunday (3rd October).

The tragedy occurred during an away match between Pierazzoli’s club Hurling and SITAS, of the Primera B of the Rugby Union of Buenos Aires (URBA).
